What if my family member or friend won't go to treatment?
Are there other options?
One option you have is to work with an interventionist, a trained
professional who will help you arrange a structured meeting
with the alcoholic or addict. An intervention is
an educational process for the whole family about the progression
of untreated alcoholism and other drug dependency. The intervention begins
the process of recovery for the whole family. This will usually
includes facilitating admission of the addicted person into
an appropriate treatment program.
What kind of medicine do I
get for detox?
A qualified physician medically supervises your detoxification
from alcohol and drugs. Medication may be prescribed
to keep you comfortable, but not everyone goes through
detoxification without some discomfort. We do not use
methadone for detoxification from opiates.
What if I need to take medicine daily for a medical condition?
Any medications prescribed by a qualified physician that
are necessary for your well-being will be kept at our nursing
station. Patients may receive necessary medication at pre-set
times according to the schedule of activities.
When may visitors come to the Betty Ford Center?
Patients are busy with program activities all day every day.
On Sundays, the schedule is relaxed a bit and patients
are able to make telephone calls during assigned times,
and have some free time. Visiting hours are from 1:00 p.m.
to 5:00 p.m. Family members are encouraged to attend our Family
Program which takes place around the patient's third
week of treatment.
What is the Family Program?
The Family Program is
a five-day educational program for patients' family members
and friends age thirteen and over. Family members learn about
addiction and addictive patterns, and address their own concerns.
Patients and family members may participate in a joint group
near the end of the Family Program. Having a patient in treatment
at the Betty Ford Center is not a requirement for participation
in the Family Program. We welcome all family members and
friends who want help.
Does the Betty Ford Center work with insurance?
Betty Ford Center does not communicate directly with insurance companies. Upon discharge, all patients receive a courtesy bill. Please contact your insurance company for more reimbursement information.
I want to get the admissions procedure started, but I called
and the Admissions Department is closed, what can I do?
You may start your own admissions procedure by filling out
the Application
for Admission and email it or fax it to (760) 773-4126. Once the Admissions
Department opens, an Admissions Counselor will review the
application and call you to continue the process.
